Building Healthier Futures: The Interrupt’s Transformative Partnership with UAB in Alabama

Selma Ribbon Cutting

In January, The Interrupt joined forces with the University of Alabama Birmingham’s Live Smart Health Alabama to address critical health challenges in one of the nation’s most underserved states. Together, we focused on community development, health promotion, and chronic disease prevention, tackling conditions like obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease through place-based solutions.

By increasing access to healthy foods, physical activity opportunities, healthcare services, and educational resources, the initiative empowered residents to lead healthier lives. A proud milestone of this collaboration was the unveiling of their first park and pond—a powerful symbol of community-driven progress.

This partnership, which began in 2022 with projects in Birmingham and Selma, has already delivered measurable impact through health screenings, nutrition programs, and educational workshops for underserved populations. Building on this success, The Interrupt and UAB are now expanding their reach to bring transformative health solutions to more communities across Alabama.

The Interrupt is proud to partner with UAB, whose holistic approach to community health is creating a lasting difference. Together, we are fostering healthier, more resilient communities across the state.
