The Interrupt Expands to Milwaukee

The Interrupt is partnering with the D.E.E.R. Accelerator to learn from and support its work to close Milwaukee’s life expectancy gap.

The Interrupt is expanding to Milwaukee in partnership with the D.E.E.R. Accelerator, a place-based initiative dedicated to closing life expectancy gaps through strategic community investment. The D.E.E.R. Accelerator is backed by a coalition of corporate and philanthropic partners including: Ascension Wisconsin, Aurora Healthcare, Froedtert ThedaCare, the Milwaukee Bucks, and five independent family foundations.

The Interrupt will share what it has learned from its work in Washington, DC, Alabama and Philadelphia, including which approaches have made the most difference, with the D.E.E.R. Accelerator and its partners. D.E.E.R. will decide what fits Milwaukee, and what it learns will in turn inform The Interrupt’s work in other communities.

“The D.E.E.R. Accelerator was built around what neighborhoods actually need, not a generic playbook. The Interrupt understands that, and it’s why this partnership made sense. Milwaukee is ready to show what coordinated corporate action can achieve when the right partners commit to it together. The Interrupt gives us a way to learn from what is working in other cities, and we expect Milwaukee to teach others in return,” said Wendell Willis, Managing Director of the D.E.E.R. Accelerator.
